BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

Our BJJ program is lead by Coach Justin Doggett, a black belt in BJJ and an IBJJF gold medalist. Coach Justin received his black belt under 3rd degree BJJ black belt, Jay Valko. Professor Valko focuses on a competitive style of BJJ that includes techniques from Judo and wresting, and Coach Justin brings that focus to Mac's Gym, while also including aspects of striking and self-defense. Professor Valko trained under Professor Eduardo "Veio" de Lima, a 6th degree black belt in BJJ under Carlos "Carlinhos" Gracie, Jr.

Coach Justin's BJJ program focuses on fundamentals, self-defense, and stand-up competency with elements of greco-roman wrestling and Judo so that each student can be as efficient as possible in their grappling techniques.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a critical piece of our mixed martial arts training. While striking is extremely important for our program, many MMA fights and self-defense scenarios end up on the ground. Therefore, it is important that our students are competent in grappling based combat sports, like BJJ.

BJJ focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one's opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission. Mac's Gym offers BJJ as part of its premiere mixed martial arts training. BJJ classes are on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings.
